The 2016 Presidential election is shaping up to be one of the most important and consequential elections of our lifetime. With one or more Supreme Court seats at stake and the vast differences in each candidate’s views and positions on immigration, health care, guns, education, job creation, re-investing in African American communities and foreign policy, your vote can decide who will shape America’s future for the next 4 years and beyond.
What is equally important is to make certain that we do not get swept up in the national election but neglect the importance of local elections. School boards, city and county councils and other forms of government in down ballot races have greater weight than political contests at the national level. Why? Because lawmakers at this level make decisions that more directly affect our day-to-day lives. So it’s just as important to vote for the mayor, the district or state attorney or sheriff as it is to vote for president of the United States.
