About the event

As of right now, the COVID-19 relief that was initiated for most federal student loans is due to expire in just six weeks. The chances of an extension are not certain so now is the time student loan borrowers need to start evaluating their options and financial circumstances to ensure a plan is in place. This session will discuss what to expect when the payment waivers end, explain the implications, and highlight strategies and tools available depending on your situation. Our student loan expert will also explore the possibility of further extensions and what we might expect over the coming months now that we are post-election.

The Financial Empowerment Center at the Greater Washington Urban League has partnered with The Institute of Student Loan Advisors (TISLA) to bring you valuable information on how to manage your student loan debt once the waivers expire. This webinar is the first in a four-part series in student loan debt management. The remaining sessions in our series will cover the following student loan topics.

  • Income-based Repayment Plans - December 2020
  • Parent PLUS Loan Borrowers - January 2021
  • Public Student Loan Forgiveness Programs - February 2021
